Developmental Editing

Have you written a first, second or even a third draft of your book?

You may be ready for the next step. Developmental editing encompasses a close reading and extensive written feedback on your entire manuscript.

Unlike copy-editing, which focuses on grammar and polish, developmental editing helps you see the big picture of your book: its structure, pacing, themes, and clarity of voice.

As your developmental editor, I will read your entire manuscript to help you:

  • Clarify your book’s vision and goals
  • Strengthen your narrative arc or journey of transformation
  • Deepen characters, themes, or key ideas
  • Identify what’s missing, what’s in the wrong place, or what’s not serving your book.

What to Expect

You’ll receive a detailed editorial letter and margin notes on your manuscript, highlighting strengths as well as opportunities for revision. You may also schedule a follow-up call or coaching session to talk through next steps, depending on your needs.

Fees

If you’re ready to move your book forward, contact me about providing a sample of your manuscript, as well as about fees and timelines.
